Diageo Luxury Releases Mortlach 30 Year Old in Collaboration with Artists Diorama and Matthew Placek

New York, NY — Diageo Luxury has announced the launch of Mortlach 30-Year-Old: Midnight Malt, a single malt scotch. Intended to be savoured slowly, this rich and deep whisky is bound to delight as it’s aged 30 years and has an enticing, complex blend of peppery spice, orchard fruits, and chocolate.

Leading their unique luxury portfolio, this acclaimed spirit is a rich, deep whisky intended to be savored slowly as day transcends to night. Known as the “Midnight Malt”, this spirit is incredibly complex, with intensity emerging from a three-cask finish. Similar to other whiskies in the Mortlach brand, this single malt scotch is intricately crafted to achieve an exquisite tasting experience. Mortlach is a treasure of Scotland’s iconic Speyside region and is deeply rooted in thoughtful craftsmanship, distilled through a distinct, design-forward process of whisky-making. The outcome is a whisky with a smooth complexity and a bold flavor without the smoke.

Diageo hosted Mortlach 30 Year Old’s global launch in New York on October 19th, featuring a visual adventure that allowed guests to follow one droplet of Mortlach through the six stills that define its unique 2.81 times distillation process. Culminating in the intriguing 30-Year-Old expression, this all-encompassing experience highlighted the audacity and intricacy of the spirit itself. Mortlach 30 Year Old has partnered with the brilliant minds at Diorama to create the experience that allows viewers to understand the skill, art, and mastery that goes into each bottle of Mortlach. Taking viewers inside the stills for the first time, Diorama created a digital exploration of each of the steps in the process of creating Mortlach: preparation, fermentation, distillation, ageing, bottling and packaging. The content is multifaceted, with film aspects, augmented reality experience, social media shareable content and more. Artist and photographer Matthew Placek captured the evening using his singular Polaroid process, providing guests a unique photograph to commemorate the night.

The spirit itself is a muted amber colour, with excellent beading. With herbal notes and a winey and apple taste on the palate, Mortlach 30 is destined to delight tasters with its long spicy intensity, along with black pepper notes. Aged 30 years in American Oak and European Oak combined, the Midnight Malt is unlike any other spirit and is the darkest, richest expression in the Mortlach portfolio to date.

“There is an art and science to the creation of whisky, born of an unabating quest to wield flavor – a journey that is complex, evolving into unknown directions, only to finally reveal itself as the patient labour of a visionary at work,” shares Dr Craig Wilson, Master Blender of Malts for Diageo. This blend of art and science can be seen in the countless design details throughout the launch of the exquisitely crafted Mortlach 30-Year-Old.
