The V&A’s Fashion Gallery Begins a New Chapter with Burberry

London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, renowned for its groundbreaking fashion exhibitions, is entering a new era. Starting this May, the Fashion Gallery will undergo extensive renovation and will be relaunched in spring 2027 under a new name: The Burberry Gallery.

Over the years, the V&A has redefined how we view fashion as both art and culture. From the stunning Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition in 2015 — which captivated the world after debuting at The Met in New York — to more recent successes like Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams and Gabrielle Chanel: Fashion Manifesto, the museum has consistently raised the bar for fashion presentations.

Now, through a partnership with Burberry — Britain’s most iconic fashion house — the V&A is set to completely transform its permanent fashion space, untouched since the 1960s, and redefine the visitor experience.

“Fashion has always been integral to the story of the V&A,” says Tristram Hunt, the museum’s director. The new gallery will offer a broader platform for the V&A’s global fashion collections as well as for contemporary designers shaping the industry’s future.

Joshua Schulman, CEO of Burberry, highlights the significance of the moment: This is a meeting of two legendary British institutions, united by heritage, innovation, and a shared passion for creativity.”

Until the grand reopening in 2027, fashion lovers can still explore the museum’s temporary exhibitions: Cartier opening in April and Marie Antoinette Style launching in September. A large part of the V&A’s fashion collection will also be accessible at the new V&A East Storehouse, opening on 31 May, and online.
